Barkly Regional Council

Barkly Regional Council is the world's fourth largest Local Government Area (LGA) and the second biggest in Australia, covering 323,000km squared with a population of over 8000 people. The region stretches from Barrow Creek in the south all the way up to Newcastle Waters, and East to the Queensland border.

In the centre of the Northern Territory and the Barkly Region is Tennant Creek, the largest town in the region and where our Council's operations are based. There are a total of six towns in the Barkly, all with surrounding urban communities, and eight minor communities across the region.

We now have an opportunity for a full-time Work Staff Supervisor based in Alpurrurulam, Northern Territory.

The Opportunity

As our Work Staff Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the community's infrastructure by performing a range of tasks relating to manual and mechanical works.

This role involves leading a team dedicated to maintaining and enhancing community infrastructure and public spaces. You will have discretion around hiring allowing you to shape the team by selecting individuals whose skills and work ethic align with your and the Council's objectives.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the daily maintenance of tools and machinery
  • Operating large plant equipment and managing various municipal tasks
  • Supervising and training Municipal Officers
  • Performing administrative duties, including stock-take and record-keeping
  • Ensuring the readiness and safety of work sites and equipment
  • Liaising with the Area Manager to provide efficient service delivery

About You

To qualify, you will ideally join with a current MR driver’s licence, however, for the right candidate, assistance to obtain this upon commencement is available. Experience in municipal services and a supervisory role is essential, as is the ability to undergo a National Police Criminal Check.

Moreover, we value the following:

Remuneration and Benefits

You will receive a generous base salary of $74,486.70 plus 11% super, 17.5% leave loading and great benefits.

Benefits include:

  • 6 weeks of annual leave per year to help you explore our region
  • A Remote Community Zone Allowance of $4,959.76 per annum ($2.51 per ordinary hour)
